Telok Sengat is a town located at the mouth of Sungai Johor, Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia. The story behind the name of the village is when The commander of Buyong is the king's confidant.
He's free to enter and exit the palace. In the palace many of the ladies managed the preparation
of the king. Commander Buyong fell in love with a dayang named Azizah. Azizah likes him too.
They agreed to escape. One night, they fled quietly using a boat. Two days and two nights at sea,
they reached the beach, the beach was not far from Kampung Johor Lama. The commander of Buyong
changed the name so that people would not be known. In the palace, the king was furious at the loss of his lady.
Daeng Haji Muda and Daeng Haji Putih were sent to the whole tour. They're the greatest heroes of Bugis.
Finally, they found Panglima Buyong in Kampung Johor Lama. Upon reaching the house of Panglima Buyong,
Daeng Haji Putih and Daeng Haji Muda stabbed him. Commander Buyong was seriously injured.
After the two Bugis warriors left Buyong, only then did the villagers dare to visit him. They're
treating Commander Buyong. The wound is terrible. When asked about the situation, everyone
replied, "Teruk sangat". A Chinese merchant stopped by the village. He stopped by and heard
stories of wounded people. He tried to cure but he was also not willing. With his Chinese accent
he replied, "Telok Sengat". Since then the town has been called Teluk Sengat.
